Eighty per cent of farmers are considered smallholder farmers and account for approximately 90 per cent of agricultural production. The sector employs almost 50 per cent of the working population, and an additional 14 per cent is employed in the off-farm agri-food system.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhile the country has immense production potential, systemic challenges impede progress, including insecurity, rising input costs, climate change, post-harvest loss, low levels of mechanisation and irrigation, and poor transportation and cold chain networks.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe EWAS program seeks to address challenges such as unreliable electricity, limited access to productive‑use energy (PUE) technologies, post‑harvest losses, and barriers to financing, while enabling young women to increase their incomes and build sustainable livelihoods.
